Dermaplaning & Dermafiling in Los Angeles (Thousand Oaks) by Dr. Kristina Tansavatdi
Dermaplaning & Dermafiling in Los Angeles (Thousand Oaks)
Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment performed by our specially trained aestheticians to remove unwanted dead skin cells. This exfoliating treatment is done by carefully and expertly using a small blade to scrape and rid the skin of dead skin cells and facial hair at the same time. By removing the layer of facial hair, often termed “peach fuzz”, and dead skin cells, dermaplaning allows deeper penetration of the application of any mild chemical peels available in our office. The PCA SKIN Sensi Peel is one peel commonly combined with the dermaplaning treatment to further exfoliate and drive important nutrients into the patient’s skin. Dermaplaning combined with the PCA SKIN Sensi Peel increases cell turnover for better anti-aging benefits. The result from the procedure is velvety soft, refreshed skin, which allows a smoother application of your makeup.
Preparing for Dermaplaning
To prepare for your treatment, any Retin A or retinol products or any products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) must be discontinued three days prior to treatment. It is recommended that extended sun exposure be avoided in the 10 days prior to treatment. You may experience a slight windburn feeling the first 24 to 48 hours after dermaplaning. There is no downtime to this procedure. For two days post-procedure, we recommend avoiding direct heat from a hot shower spray, hair dryer, hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas. Avoid participation in activities that would cause excessive perspiration. Loofahs, masques, scrubs or other means of mechanical exfoliation, or ice or ice water should not be applied to the treated area for at least one week.

Dermafiling is another great exfoliation treatment performed by our highly trained aestheticians. Dermafiling is performed with dermafiles made out of crushed diamonds and is similar to microdermabrasion, providing exfoliation and stimulating collagen production. The files come in three different grits: fine, medium and coarse. Our aestheticians will determine the one best suited for you. This treatment can be used on all skin types, including patients with sensitive skin or rosacea that are normally unable to have a microdermabrasion treatment. One of the benefits of dermafiling is that it will not cause broken capillaries that can possibly occur with use of the suction during microdermabrasion. Another advantage of dermafiling is that the files can be used right beneath the eyes so you will see benefits to the fine lines under the eyes. Dermafiling can also smooth out sebaceous hyperplasia lesions, which are small bumps commonly found on the surface of the skin caused by overactive oil glands on the face.
What does Dermafiling treat?
Dermafiling treats aging and sun damaged skin, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation equally well. As with dermaplaning, depending on your skin type, a PCA SKIN Sensi Peel can be used in conjunction with the treatment. If a PCA SKIN Sensi Peel is used in conjunction with the dermafiling treatment usage of any Retin A or retinol products or any products containing AHA’s must be discontinued three days prior to treatment. It is recommended that extended sun exposure be avoided in the 10 days prior to treatment. After a dermafiling treatment your skin feels silky smooth, fresh and rejuvenated. The dermafile treatment like the dermaplane treatment requires no downtime.
