How to Fix a Deviated Septum

deviated septum

Hi there, Dr. Tansavatdi here. Today I’d like to answer some questions regarding septoplasty surgery. Now patients when they come in for consultation regarding rhinoplasty they often find that their septum is deviated, and they didn’t even know that it was. So what can we do to correct a deviated septum? Well, the surgery is called a septoplasty and that requires sometimes a closed approach which means we make an incision inside the nose, and we expose the crooked septum. Septoplasty Procedure Details We take out the part that’s crooked and then we close everything up. Now that is probably about 50% to 60% of my cases are closed. The closed approach doesn’t affect the shape of the nose. However, sometimes the septum is deviated and it also contributes to a crooked nose. As I explained in a previous video, I explained that the septum is like the wall of a house, and it separates the two sides of your nose. The wall can lean over to one side. If the wall leans, then the whole complex leans with it and the bridge of the nose also leans over to one side and your nose will look crooked. So when … Read More

How Do I Know If I Have a Deviated Septum

deviated septum

Hi there, Dr. Tansavatdi here. Today, I’d like to answer a frequently asked question that I get when patients come in for a rhinoplasty consultation, and that is how do I know that I have a deviated septum. So, one of the ways that you would find out is if you plug one side of your nose, you should be able to breathe clearly through the other side. However, if your breathing sounds congested, it’s going to sound obstructed. That sound, that obstruction means that you probably have a deviated septum on that side. You would also want to plug the other side. So you’d go and try both sides to see which side is obstructing. The other way you would know is that if you are a side sleeper, and you sleep on one side more than the other and especially because if you sleep on one side and that improves your breathing and that is most likely that your septum is deviated. One other way you could tell is if your nose is crooked because the septum is deviated. My septum is this wall. Think of it as a wall that goes up to the roof of your … Read More

Dr. T Favorite Surgery

rhinoplasty thousand oaks

Hello, Dr. Tansavatdi here. I often get patients who are interested in knowing what my favorite surgery is so I’m going to share a little bit about myself today. I do a lot surgeries on the face, and there’s a variety of surgeries I do. The surgery I enjoy doing the most is rhinoplasty, and the reason why is because rhinoplasties are very challenging. I don’t know what it is, but I love rising to challenges, and especially rhinoplasty surgery because the nose is in the center of your face. If you get this done poorly, everybody is going to see it. The tiniest moves or changes I do, even though it may take me a half hour to do it can make a huge difference in a patient’s face so I really enjoy that aspect of rhinoplasty surgery. It’s also something that you hone with many years of practice. Even today, rhinoplasty for me is still challenging even though I do a lot of it. I still find it fun and rewarding to do because every case is different, and I’m constantly trying to improve. To me, that is truly what an artist does. Thank you again for tuning … Read More

How To Slow The Aging Process

Dr. Kristina Tansavatdieyes, face, lips, nose, skin, Vlog

Hi there, Dr. Tansavatdi here. I recorded actually two videos prior to this. I want to go back to this question that I get from a lot of my patients and that is, “what can I do about the aging process?” I had surgery, I’ve done the face lift. I look better now, but how can I prevent the aging signs from continuing? How do I stop the process or lengthen the process before I’m aging quickly here? So, I did talk about sleep and diet last time. I didn’t go into too much detail. Just kind of shallowly got into those two topics. I wanted to stress about sleep and recap that you want to have at least 7-8 hours a night and it sounds like everybody knows that. Everybody knows that to be true, you need to get more sleep. But that common knowledge isn’t common practice. I even have trouble in my own daily life to get that 7 hours of quality sleep per night. So there are resources that can help you. One thing that I didn’t mention in my last video is a book that I’ve been reading and have really gotten a lot … Read More

Questions You Should Be Asking About Rhinoplasty

Dr. Kristina Tansavatdinose, Vlog

Hi there, Dr. Tansavatdi here. I wanted to talk to you about rhinoplasty surgery and specifically what you should be asking your surgeon when you come to a rhinoplasty consultation. I often find that when I have the consultation sometimes patients just don’t know what to ask and/or they are prepared for their consultation, they’ve been told bring pictures of noses that you want to have of what your expectation would be, but better yet there are some questions I think that you should be bringing to your consultation and I wish my patients would ask me. So these are a couple of the questions I think that would make your consultation much more effective and the first one would be “Board Certification.” Does your surgeon have certification in the distinctions that are important for rhinoplasty surgery? So those two would be the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the second would be the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The second question is, often times I get asked how many rhinoplasty procedures do you do or how many have you done? The number is not necessarily so much important as how often does your surgeon operate … Read More

Combat Aging (Part 2)

So in my last video I stopped at the part talking about the importance of health and how that affects your skin and I had talked about sleep because it gives you enough energy. It also fuels your brain to restore itself during your sleeping hours. Now I’m going to talk about a second part to health and that is related to diet. What foods you put in your body to fuel your body. We forget, actually, our Western diet has a lot of foods that create inflammation and the basis of inflammation is that it creates more damage to the DNA, damages the cells and that’s what’s going to create more aging processes to our skin. So, how do we prevent the aging process? I’m not trying to say this is the Fountain of Youth, but I’m trying to say what can you do to prevent the aging from accelerating and so one of the key factors is what foods you choose in your diet. The biggest one is that a lot of people use- they want to get a lot of protein. We’re high in protein right now. Everybody say “lots of protein, because you should be … Read More

Hi there, Dr. Tansavatdi here. We are approaching the end of 2017 so I wanted to find a topic that would kind of resonate with everybody and that is what have you accomplished in 2017. I know I’m very happy with what I have in my life. I made a lot of changes this year and hope you did too. From some of my patients 2017 was a great year, positive year. They focused on themselves. They made the changes that they needed to and that included getting surgery for themselves. So, into 2018 I have a lot of patients asking, “What can I do with the results that I’ve got from surgery? How can I extend those results and look my very best. So I’m gonna give you some of the tips that I do in my own life that I feel has given me an edge and made positive changes in my life this year. So the first thing I would say is really focusing on your health because health really translates to physical outside beauty and the improvement in your skin and a glow that you can carry throughout the rest of your life.
