Dermal Fillers in Thousand Oaks with Dr. Kristina Tansavatdi
Also serving Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, Malibu, Calabasas and Santa Barbara
For Westlake Village facial plastic surgery patients with subtle signs of aging, a facial makeover does not have to be extreme. Facial injectables are an excellent treatment option and Dr. Kristina Tansavatdi is pleased to offer her patients a variety of injectables to address their unique aesthetic concerns. Dermal fillers are designed to fill in depressions, including subtle wrinkles and lines, and restore facial volume that dwindles with age.
Dermal fillers are administered under topical anesthesia with no downtime. In some cases, mild bruising and swelling is common and tends to subside within one to two days.
Dermal fillers – also known as “wrinkle fillers” – are a quick and effective way to create a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are FDA approved and considered to be very safe. These injectable gels can help you look five to ten years younger in just 15 minutes! Dermal fillers are an increasingly popular choice for Westlake Village facial plastic surgery patients with subtle signs of aging.
What do dermal fillers do?
As we age, our faces lose some of their youthful fullness. Visible lines occur around our eyes, nose and mouth. Cheekbones become less defined. Lips also lose some of their fullness and become thinner. Many of our Westlake Village patients feel that these changes make them look older and more tired.
Dermal fillers are administered using a fine needle and can reduce wrinkles ranging from fine lines to deep folds. Dermal fillers are also used to restore volume loss in the cheeks, mid face and lips. Treatment can take as little as 15 minutes. As a result, patients look younger and more rested, without the downtime associated with plastic surgery.
How do dermal fillers work?
Skin changes associated with aging include decreases in collagen (which is responsible for skin firmness), elastin (which allows skin to “snap back” after being stretched) and hyaluron (which provides strength and hydration). Dermal fillers contain specially formulated products that add firmness, strength and hydration. Properly used, dermal fillers can reduce visible lines, plump up hollow cheeks, and increase volume in the lips. The result is that your face looks more youthful and rested.
What are the differences between dermal fillers?
There are several FDA approved dermal fillers available. Dr. Kristina Tansavatdi is pleased to offer her Westlake Village plastic surgery patients a variety of fillers to address their unique aesthetic needs. These include Radiesse®, Restylane®, Restylane® Silk, Restylane® Lyft, Belotero®, Juvederm®, Juvederm Voluma XC® and Sculptra®.
The fillers used by Dr. Tansavatdi are manufactured by top pharmaceutical companies and vary in cost, composition, thickness and longevity. Some fillers are only approved for specific areas of the face. In addition, some fillers can be dissolved with medication to reverse changes if there are concerns with the appearance, whereas other fillers can only be absorbed by the body and dissolve over time.
What type of dermal filler is best for me?
Dr. Tansavatdi will evaluate your facial anatomy and discuss your aesthetic goals. She will recommend which filler(s) will give you the most natural, youthful look.
Who should administer dermal fillers?
While selecting the correct type of filler is important, it is also essential to evaluate the medical professional who is administering the filler. Injecting fillers requires more than knowing how to use a needle!
To create the look you desire, the correct amount of filler must be injected into the precise area of your facial anatomy, at the appropriate depth in your skin. Dr. Tansavatdi is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with the skill, artistry and facial anatomy knowledge needed to create a natural, youthful look. She is double board certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery) and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Tansavatdi also published an article, in a prestigious medical journal, to help other practitioners use dermal fillers.
Dr. Tansavatdi offers the following dermal fillers:
Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid-based soft tissue filler that restores volume and fills in various facial depressions, including scars. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the soft tissue of the entire body and, therefore, the risks of an allergic reaction or similar adverse side effect are minimized. Restylane® is used to plump the lips, eyebrows and other facial areas. It is also an excellent treatment for facial volume restoration and can fill lines and depressions in the face. Restylane® results are fully evident within one week and can last up to six months.
Restylane® Silk is the first FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler designed to enhance lips for a natural appearance and smooth lines and wrinkles around the mouth. The silky smooth gel formulation allows for a subtle result and is designed for precise lip definition and line control. It may also be used to address fine vertical lip lines that can cause lipstick feathering and an aged appearance.
Restylane® Lyft, formerly known as Perlane-L®, is a safe and effective non surgical alternative to creating a suble, natural-looking lift to sagging cheeks and moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. As part of the natural aging process, we lose volume in our cheeks. This volume loss contributes to smile lines, skin laxity, and folds in our face. Restylane® Lyft is is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel that can provide long-lasting results for adding volume to the cheeks and other areas of the face.
Like Restylane®, Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid-based filler. Juvederm® comes in several formulas, including Juvederm® Ultra and Juvederm® Ultra Plus, which vary in strength for treatment of mild, moderate and severe facial wrinkles. Juvederm® delivers the best results when used to treat nasolabial folds, smile lines and vertical lip lines. Juvederm® results are visible immediately. The longevity of results depends on the formula used and varies from one person to another.
Juvederm VolumaTM XC
As we age, the cheek area loses its youthful shape and the lower face begins to appear heavier. Juvederm VolumaTM XC is the first and only FDA-approved filler to correct age-related volume loss in the midface. With optimal treatment, natural-looking results may last up to 2 years.
Radiesse® in Thousand Oaks / Westlake Village
Radiesse® is comprised of calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel. Calcium is a naturally occurring mineral found in our bones and therefore, the risks of an allergic reaction or similar adverse side effects are minimized. The mineral is slowly absorbed over several months by the body from the injection site. In addition to filling in facial wrinkles and lines, Radiesse® stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. Collagen is an essential structure in the skin, but its production slows down with age.
Radiesse® is commonly used to treat smile lines around the outer portion of the lips, marionette lines that extend from the corners of the mouth toward the chin, lines at the corners of the mouth and the area on either side of the chin. It can also be used to restore volume in the cheeks and face. Radiesse® results are usually visible right away and may last up to two years. In some cases, repeat injections are recommended for maintenance. Thousand Oaks / Westlake Village Radiesse® provider Dr. Tansavatdi has extensive experience in using this product and has authored an article published in a prominent medical journal to help other practitioners on this subject.
VolumaTM is a hyaluronic acid gel manufactured using VYCROSSTM technology to specially cross link the HA molecules to produce a highly viscoelastic gel. This property allows VolumaTM to be used for deep injection along the bone to reverse the signs of aging and volume loss in the cheeks and midface.
The most common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. These side effects are consistent with other facial-injection procedures. Other more serious side effects such as anaphylaxis, accidental injection into a blood vessel, or tissue necrosis are rare and should be discussed with your doctor. If you are using substances that reduce coagulation, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, warfarin, fish oil, vitamin E, and other herbal vitamins you should discontinue use at least one week before injections to decrease the risk of bruising. Also, give yourself enough time before any major event for recovery. Although recovery time is limited you should prepare for any bruising and swelling that may occur.
In clinical study, a majority of patients required a touchup at 1 month to reach the desired effect and a majority of patients were satisfied with their results at 2 years. Individual results may vary. You should discuss your treatment goals and plans with Dr. Tansavatdi.

KYBELLA™ is the first FDA-Approved injectable treatment designed to improve the appearance of submental fat (double chin).
KYBELLA™ is a patented formulation of Deoxycholic Acid that is found in the gallbladder and tricks the body into destroying fat cells. KYBELLA™ causes a permanent reduction of fat cells using just a few injection treatments below the chin area. If you are looking for a non-surgical solution to minimize the appearance of a “double chin,” Kybella™ is an excellent alternative that can effectively contour your facial profile without the downtime of surgery.
Sculptra® is the only FDA-approved facial injectable that works to stimulate the growth of your own collagen, providing results that can last for more than two years. Facial collagen loss is a natural part of the aging process. It can decrease elasticity and moisture to the skin giving you an aged appearance. To acheive optimal results, typically a minimum of three to four vials is recommended and scheduled 4-6 weeks apart for full correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles.
As with any filler there are possible side effects which include mild irritation, swelling, itching, redness, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. Results of injections vary and may last 6 months or more.
