What Blepharoplasty Can Do For You

Eyelid lift surgery can rejuvenate your eyes by removing the droopy skin on your upper eyelids and puffiness under the eyes. Depending on your unique concerns, Dr. Tansavatdi can perform both upper and lower eyelid lift procedures simultaneously. In fact, the most dramatic results occur when both upper and lower eyelid surgery is completed together. After carefully examining your eyes and discussing your aesthetic concerns, Dr. Tansavatdi will explain how eyelid surgery can help you and what type of results you should expect.

Who Is A Candidate For Eyelid Surgery?

Individuals who are generally healthy and do not suffer from pre-existing eye conditions or diseases are usually good candidates for eyelid lift surgery. Patients who have an overactive thyroid gland often do not qualify for surgery due to increased risk of swelling and other problems around the eyes. Dr. Tansavatdi will carefully examine your eye anatomy and your medical history prior to determining your candidacy for blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty Procedure Details

blepharoplasty procedureThe blepharoplasty procedure usually lasts between 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the technique and whether both upper and lower eyelids are combined in one procedure. Dr. Tansavatdi performs the upper eyelid lift using inconspicuous incisions in the natural creases of the upper eyelids. She then removes excess fat and skin. The incisions are finely closed and, over time, scars become nearly invisible, healing within the natural crease of the upper eyelid. The lower eyelids are addressed using incisions placed on the inside of the lower lids.

Excess fat is also removed here to eliminate puffiness, and the wound heals without scars because the incision is on the inside of the eyelid. In some cases, excess skin may need to be removed from the lower eyelid, and in this case the incision is inconspicuously placed just beneath the lash line. Excess fat will be removed, muscles may be repositioned, and the excess skin excised. Dr. Tansavatdi can help you determine which procedure is right for you.

Upper and/or lower eyelid lift surgery may be performed under local anesthesia in the office or under mild “twilight anesthesia,” or moderate sedation in an accredited outpatient facility. Patients can expect to go home a few hours after the procedure.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Immediately after surgery patients may experience blurry vision and mild discomfort, which is normal. During the first few days of recovery at home, patients may experience a range of symptoms, including redness, swelling, discomfort and mild bruising. Following Dr. Tansavatdi’s postoperative instructions will ensure a safe and comfortable recovery. After eyelid surgery, patients can return to work within five to seven days and final results are achieved within two to three weeks.
