How Is Skin Resurfacing Performed?

Both laser skin resurfacing and medium/deep chemical peels can cause considerable discomfort during the procedure. The procedures are performed under mild sedation by Dr. Tansavatdi at an accredited outpatient surgical facility or hospital. In most cases, Dr. Tansavatdi will inject a local anesthetic underneath the skin and/or perform a nerve block to numb the treated area or the entire face. Topical anesthesia may be applied to the face as well. The skin will then be cleansed, and any skin oils will be removed prior to treatment.

For laser skin resurfacing, the eyes are covered for protection from the CO2 laser. Several passes at different settings may be made to reach the desired effect for each region of the face. For chemical peels, separate regions of the face will be treated with different concentrations, given the differences in skin thickness throughout the face.
