Dermal Microneedling by Dr. Tansavatdi

Dermal microneedling is an excellent way to achieve beautiful, healthier, smoother skin. Our dermal microneedling treatments are performed using the Bellus SkinPen II. This treatments addresses acne scars, loose skin, wrinkles, and more. If you’re in the Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks area, Dr. Tansavatdi’s microneedling treatment can greatly improve your skin’s trouble spots.

What dermal microneedling can do for you

With our microneedling treatments, tiny needles (much like acupuncture needles) are used to penetrate deep beneath the skin’s surface to rebuild elasticity, collagen, and reduce pore size. You can expect acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles to diminish over a series of microneedling treatments. For the best results, we recommend 3 to 6 microneedling sessions, depending on your specific issue. Deeper lines require at least six treatments, while pigmentation or fine lines may require less. The procedure may be combined with vitamin C and other antioxidants to stimulate even more collagen production.

How dermal microneedling works

Our bodies have a natural “repair and healing” process that reacts to injury by producing new collagen and promoting elasticity. Dermal microneedling initiates this injury response by creating hundreds of temporary micro injuries (openings in the skin) without any thermal energy or skin removal. In response, the body creates new collagen under the skin, which results in tightening and smoothing, which decreases the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars.

About microneedling treatments

Patients report that any discomfort during microneedling is minimal, and topical numbing creams are applied for 30 minutes prior to treatments. Treatments usually take about 30 to 45 minutes depending on the area and severity of the issue. As there is micro injury to the skin, an antiviral may need to be prescribed if you are prone to cold sores. We will work with you to ensure your comfort during the procedure. This procedure is minimally invasive; however, since the skin is being penetrated, there will be some side effects afterward. The more aggressive the treatment, the more side effects there will be.

Google derma-roller. It’s great. It’s like a little wheel that has little pins, like acupuncture needles in a way, and you roll it and it stimulates your collagen. It also allows for your products to seep into your skin.

What to expect after dermal microneedling

Redness, swelling and tenderness may follow the procedure but with little to no downtime. The following day patients may return to work and resume normal activities. Most patients are able to conceal any residual signs of the treatment with makeup. Within days, there will be no evidence that any treatment was performed.

Typical Post-Treatment Side Effects

Patients may experience the following side effects after a dermal microneedling treatment.

Day 1

Mild to moderate swelling and redness, and perhaps some mild bruising.

Day 2

Some persisting redness may be present, but this along with the bruising and swelling should be fading.

Day 3

Most redness, bruising, and swelling should be nearly gone.

Day 4

By now the skin should appear mostly normal, with some minor swelling.
