What is a Lip Lift?

Candidates are patients who would like to enhance their lips with a more permanent approach, without having to get repeated filler or Botox treatments. Ideal candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • You are in good health
  • You have no serious medical conditions
  • You do not smoke
  • There is adequate distance between the upper lip and nose for the procedure to be performed

What Concerns Does a Lip Lift Resolve?

Many people have a longer upper lip area between the red of the lip and the nose, which can elongate the face. Others have a naturally thin upper lip that causes them to look older. Age and genetics both factor into these concerns and can additionally cause the upper lip to partially cover your upper teeth when you smile, either due to genetics or age. The red part of the lip can begin to curve inward, making the lip look thinner. When you smile, your lip can hang over the teeth and hide the full shine of your smile. What Should I Expect During a Lip Lift?

You will start with an in-depth consultation with Dr. Tansavatdi, who will look at your medical history, examine your lips and skin, explain the procedure in detail, and discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals. 

To begin your procedure, Dr. Tansavatdi will inject local anesthesia into the upper lip area. She will draw marks under your nose where the incision will be made. The incision point is made very carefully to ensure scarring is at an absolute minimum. Using the incision point, she will precisely remove a small section of skin under the nose. The remaining skin will be lifted upward gently to the base of the nose and secured with sutures.

Recovery

Your upper lip will be sore and swollen for the first few days. For the first week, it’s important to keep your incision clean and apply antibacterial ointment to the area as instructed by Dr. Tansavatdi. Some patients are up and about within a day, while others need a few days to rest and recuperate. Take your healing at the speed with which you’re comfortable. While you may feel fully recovered sooner, do avoid exercise or strenuous physical activity for about two weeks. 

The final results will be most apparent after about two months. At this point, any remaining swelling is gone and the healing is fully complete. You will be able to see the better proportions, fuller, ,and more attractive upper lip you wanted.
