Sculptra Treatments in Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks

For our face, getting older means that we lose muscle tone, bone density, and the plumpness that once made our face look youthful and radiant. As the years add up, we begin to see hollowing appear in our temples and cheeks, which can result in a “sunken” look. Dr. Tansavatdi offers Sculptra® treatments to add volume and take years off the face by adding volume.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra Aesthetic is the only FDA approved facial injectable that works to stimulate the growth of your own collagen, providing results that can last for more than two years. Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) based treatment, which is an acid found in the body. This means that Sculptra creates your own collagen within the skin to fill out hollowed areas and provide a more youthful appearance. The new collagen growth will give you a more vibrant, younger look.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra Aesthetic’s PLLA material is reconstituted in water. When PLLA is skillfully injected deep within your skin, it stimulates your body to produce collagen. As the Sculptra Aesthetic is naturally dissolved by your body, the collagen produced by your body takes its place and provides continued structure for your face. Wrinkles and hollowed areas are filled out, and your face looks effectively younger.

What happens during a Sculptra treatment?

Sculptra treatments take less than 30 minutes. Dr. Tansavatdi will begin the treatment by cleansing your skin and carefully marking the areas that need more volume. She will use both a topical and an injected anesthetic to make sure that you’re comfortable. Next, she will carefully administer Sculptra into your face using a microcannula, making sure that she chooses the optimal depth and volume at each location. Finally, she will massage each area to make sure that the injection is placed in the appropriate location.

Recovery after Sculptra

You will have no restrictions on your activity following your Sculptra treatment, although you should be sure to give yourself enough time before any big plans to properly recover. Although recovery time is limited, you should be ready for any bruising and swelling that may occur, which may last for 2 to 3 days. Dr. Tansavatdi often recommends that patients have their treatments on a Friday so that they can recover over the weekend. You will also be asked to massage the injected areas for the first five days following treatment. Additional volume from the injections will disappear after approximately five days.

What are the side effects of Sculptra?

As with any facial filler, there are possible side effects which include mild irritation, swelling, itching, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. Other more serious side effects such as anaphylaxis, accidental injection into a blood vessel, or tissue necrosis are rare and should be discussed with Dr. Tansavatdi. If you’re using substances that reduce coagulation such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil ®), warfarin, fish oil, vitamin E, and other herbal vitamins, you should discontinue use at least one week before injections to decrease the risk of bruising.

To minimize side effects and maximize your satisfaction with the treatment, it is essential that you select a qualified medical professional who understands how to prepare Sculptra, as well as the proper depth, volume, and placement of each injection. Dr. Tansavatdi is highly experienced and skilled with Sculptra. As a facial plastic surgeon who is an expert of the human face, she understands exactly how to administer this treatment.

How long until I see results from Sculptra?

It’s important for patients to note that Sculptra does not have “instant gratification” results like hyaluronic dermal fillers do. You should begin to see results from the first treatment after about four weeks. Sculptra treatments are spaced approximately 5 to 6 weeks apart, and you will continue to see results after each treatment as your body builds collagen. The final results should be apparent after five months. Results will vary from patient to patient, and may last six months or more.

Am I a good candidate for Sculptra?

If you’re in the Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks area and interested in Sculptra treatments, you may be an excellent candidate. We recommend that you make an appointment with Dr. Tansavatdi to learn more. Good candidates for Sculptra have smile lines (also called “marionette lines”) around the mouth, wrinkles on the chin, or volume loss of the forehead or jaw that they would like to improve.

Is Sculptra permanent?

The aging process is ongoing, and your body will continue to break down collagen. Because of this, Sculptra cannot halt the aging process entirely. Although every patient is different depending on the quality of your skin and the amount of collagen produced by your body, treatments typically last two years or more. Dr. Tansavatdi will advise you when you will need touch-up treatments.
