What is Jeuveau?

Like Botox, Jeuveau is made of a neurotoxin, botulinum toxin type A. Botulinum toxin temporarily paralyzes wrinkle-causing facial muscles by preventing activating signals from being delivered between the nerve and the muscle. By temporarily paralyzing the muscles, the lines created by movement of muscles in the face are diminished, pausing the aging process.

If you’re in the Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks area and interested in improving the appearance of your facial lines, Dr. Tansavatdi offers Jeuveau™, a non-invasive injectable designed to improve the look of lines that develop due to facial muscle movement.

Areas that Jueveau can treat

Jeuveau is an excellent treatment option for individuals who wish to reduce the appearance of:

  • Horizontal lines across the forehead
  • Lines around the eyes, also known as crow’s feet
  • Unwanted neck bands (platysmal bands)
  • Temples and jawline for TMJ
  • Lines found when your face is “at rest”

What are Jeuveau treatments like?

Jeuveau is administered at Dr. Tansavatdi’s Westlake Village plastic surgery practice, and requires only a 10- to 15-minute office visit. Patients are able to return to their usual activities immediately afterward. Subtle swelling at the injection sites is common, but subsides quickly over 24 to 48 hours. Bruising is less common and can often be avoided by not taking blood thinners, herbs, or vitamins that have a tendency to increase the risk of bleeding or bruising. Jeuveau results are not immediate; they will take 2 to 7 days to become apparent. Results vary from patient to patient, and can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months.

How is Jeuveau administered?

Jeuveau is administered in the same way as Botox and Dysport. It is injected with a very small needle (one of the smallest available) into the target muscle. Each area that will be injected is wiped with alcohol to make sure that the area is clean and sterile. Jeuveau is not considered a painful procedure. Dr. Tansavatdi or your injector will use cold compression on the skin before each injection so that any pain from the needle is minimized. Our patients find Jeuveau injections to be very tolerable, with minimal discomfort. In fact, most patients at our office tell us that they don’t even feel the needle.

Is Jeuveau safe?

Yes. Jeuveau received FDA approval in February 2019 for treatment of frown lines (the furrows between the eyebrows), but it can also be used in other areas of the face to treat additional unwanted lines. It is an extremely safe treatment when administered by an experienced medical professional such as Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village surgeon Dr. Kristina Tansavatdi.

Will it look like I’ve had “work done”?

Not at all. Dr. Tansavatdi and our professional treatment injectors are very careful about giving patients a “frozen” look. Our treatment philosophy is to get the most natural look without any visible sign of having had treatment. Our priority is your health and safety, but we also highly value your aesthetic goals and appearance. Dr. Tansavatdi is an expert of the human face, and understands the underlying muscles and exactly how much Jeuveau to use on each unique patient.

This is why she has a consultation with you to study your face in advance. At Tansavatdi Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery, you can be sure that we will achieve a natural, refreshed appearance for you. Your treatments with us will be your best-kept secret.

Why should I try Jeuveau if I already use Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin?

At Tansavatdi Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery, we like to emphasize that each individual is different, with a unique facial structure, their own specific areas of concern, and their own muscles that are particular to their own body. As a result, some patients may notice that Jeuveau lasts longer for them or that it’s stronger than Botox, while other patients would say that Botox works better for them. The injection outcome for one person may not necessarily translate to the same outcome for someone else.

What’s the difference between Botox and Jeuveau?

There is very little difference between Botox and Jeuveau. Both treatments are comprised of the same active neurotoxin, botulinum toxin Type A. There is a small difference in the purification process, which leads to slightly more pure neurotoxin in each vial of Jeuveau. Recent published studies have shown that Jeuveau is equivalent to Botox in patient satisfaction and degree of improvement.

Jeuveau downtime and recovery

There is almost no downtime with Jeuvea. Many of our patients return to work and daily activities immediately after treatment. In fact, Jeuveau injections take such little downtime that many patients come in during their lunch break to have it done. Although there’s extremely low downtime with Jeuvea, you’ll still need to plan for a few things, including:

  • Refraining from exercising the first 24 hours
  • Avoiding laying flat for at least 4 hours
  • Schedule treatment in the morning if you go to bed early

Am I a candidate for Jeuveau?

If you’re interested in Jeuveau in the Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks area, you may be an excellent candidate. Jeuveau is great for both men and women, and an ideal candidate for this treatment is someone who is looking to reduce the presence of fine lines and wrinkles with a non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment.

In order to determine if Jeuveau is a good option for your aesthetic goals, Dr. Tansavatdi will carefully examine your areas of concern and your medical history. Your treatment areas and number of units will be determined as Dr. Tansavatdi takes into account your anatomy, brow position, resting facial tone, and the specific strength of your facial muscles.

Can Jeuveau be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Many patients will typically have their Jeuveau treatment in conjunction with a dermal filler treatment. If you’re having treatments are done that require you to lie down (such as microneedling, Hydrafacial, IPL, or Fractora), we will perform your Jeuveau treatment after your other treatment is complete. Many treatments go hand-in-hand to achieve the harmonious aesthetic outcome that our patients want.

Preparing for Jeuveau

Since Jeuveau is administered using a small needle, patients typically do not experience much bruising. However, if you’re on blood thinners such as ibuprofen (Advil™) or aspirin, or vitamins and herbs such as fish oil, turmeric, and Vitamin E, you may have an increased chance of bruising, so we advise that these medications or vitamins be stopped around 7 to 10 days before your appointment. To further prevent bruising, we recommend that you also avoid drinking alcohol immediately before and after your treatment.

The benefits of choosing Dr. Tansavatdi

As a Thousand Oaks facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Tansavatdi is highly educated in the anatomy of the face and neck. Her surgical experience gives her an advantage over other injectors because of the level of in-depth knowledge of the anatomy of the face, and our injectors gain an excellent understanding of the anatomy by working with her.

Dr. Tansavatdi and our injectors are skilled in administering facial injectables and have an excellent track record of patient safety and results. Many patients have mentioned that Dr. Tansavatdi and our injectors inject “differently” than their previous injector. This is because our injections are performed more precisely to the muscles themselves, which leads to less units and a more natural appearance.

We also deliver injections with patient comfort in mind, using the smallest needles available and cold compression for an extra level of ease. FAQ

How long do Jeuveau treatments take?

The actual Jeuveau treatment will take roughly between 5 to 10 minutes, but your appointment time may be longer so that you have time to talk with Dr. Tansavatdi or your injector about what areas and issues you would like to improve. If it’s your first appointment with us, you may have a longer appointment time so that we can go over your treatment plan and you can fill out paperwork.

When can I expect to see results?

Patients typically notice results from Jeuveau around 2 to 3 days after treatment, but sometimes it may take closer to seven days. In 2 to 3 weeks, the full benefit of Jeuveau will be visible.

How much does Jeuveau cost?

At Tansavatdi Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery, we charge for Jeuveau by the number of units that are used, so you’ll only pay for the units that you received at the time of your treatment. We emphasize that each patient is paying for the expertise and experience with our injectors at our office—not the product.
