Restylane® Silk is used to enhance the lips and smooth wrinkles around the mouth. It’s the first FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler designed specifically for the lips. Restylane Silk creates a smooth, natural appearance and appeals to adults who want lips with more fullness and definition. It is also used to remove vertical lines, often called “pucker lines” or “lipstick lines”.

What are the advantages of Restylane Silk?

Restylane Silk is designed specifically for lips and the results look very natural. This product also allows Dr. Tansavatdi to precisely inject the product to meet your aesthetic goals. Because the product contains lidocaine and a tiny needle is used, injections are much more comfortable than with other fillers. Restylane Silk is not derived from animal sources, and does not cause allergic reactions in patients who are sensitive to beef, chicken, or eggs.

How does Restylane Silk work?

Restylane Silk contains hyaluronic acid, which is a natural polysaccharide (sugar molecule) that occurs in the body. As we age, the hyaluron in our body—which provides strength and hydration—decreases. This is why, as we get older, our lips become thinner and lines form around our mouths.

When Restylane Silk is injected into the lips, the hyaluronic acid attracts and binds to water molecules.

Since each molecule can hold 1,000 times its weight in water, using Restylane Silk can create plump, more youthful-looking lips.

Restylane Silk is gradually degraded by the body’s own mechanism and disappears without any residue. Restylane Silk is composed of smaller and smoother particles than Restylane, which allows Dr. Tansavatdi to precisely shape the lips using an extremely fine needle.

How is Restylane Silk administered?

Restylane Silk is administered using a fine needle. The lips are numbed using a topical numbing cream, and the product contains a local anesthetic to make the experience more comfortable. Injections can take up to 30 minutes.

It’s important to choose a medical professional who will create a lip shape that flatters your face and doesn’t look overdone.

Who is a good candidate for Restylane Silk filler treatments?

The ideal candidate for Restylane Silk is in good health, has reasonable expectations for the procedure, and is at least 21 years old. Restylane Silk cannot be used if you have a bleeding disorder, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you have a skin infection (such as a cold sore, pimple or rash), you must wait until it is healed. During the week before your procedure, you must avoid taking medications and supplements that prolong bleeding.

Can Restylane Silk be combined with other treatments?

Absolutely. During your consultation, Dr. Tansavatdi will discuss your aesthetic goals and how to best achieve the look you desire. Many of our Westlake Village facial plastic surgery patients choose to combine Restylane Silk with other procedures to create a more youthful, rested appearance.
