PRP for Hair Loss from Dr. Tansavatdi

If you’re in the Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks area and looking for a solution to hair loss, Dr. Tansavatdi can help with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) hair restoration treatments. For many, having a thick, full head of hair is a sign of attractiveness. Because of this, losing your hair can have a devastating effect on your self-confidence and quality of life. However, this method of stimulating hair growth has left many patients very satisfied.

How does PRP/PRF hair restoration work?

Everyone’s blood contains platelets, fibrin, and stem cells. The platelets are rich in growth factors, which is the element that helps your injuries scab over when they’ve been bleeding. When used for hair restoration, these platelets have the ability to stimulate hair growth in dormant hair cells, particularly in those with androgenetic alopecia.

When your body’s fibrin and stem cells are added to this procedure, the stem cells become the building block of the new hair, and the fibrin helps the growth factors and stem cells stay put in the area they’re injected into.

What is PRP and PRF hair restoration?

The process of PRP and PRF hair restoration is extraordinary. It is a procedure that uses your body’s own plasma or fibrin and stem cells to stimulate the growth in dormant hair cells and help new hair to appear.

What happens during a PRP/PRF hair treatment?

PRP/PRF hair restoration treatments usually take about one hour. When you arrive for your appointment, blood will be drawn from your arm and added into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood, which separates the red blood cells from the platelets. Once this is done, the platelets will be extracted using a syringe. If you’re having platelet-rich fibrin done, the centrifuge will spin more slowly—which will still separate the blood from the platelets, but includes the fibrin and stem cells as well.

Your scalp will be washed, and a numbing agent may be applied to help with any discomfort. Dr. Tansavatdi will inject the syringe full of platelets directly into specifically targeted areas of the scalp, right at the hair follicles to get optimal results.

What to expect after treatment

After a PRP/PRF hair restoration treatment, patients may experience a minimal amount of discomfort, swelling, itching, scalp tenderness, and/or bleeding at the injection site. Some may also have a headache. If you’re concerned about any of these side effects, please let Dr. Tansavatdi know during your consultation. She will answer any questions or concerns you have.

How soon does new hair appear?

Patients should be aware that multiple sessions may be necessary to maintain results, depending on the severity of the patient’s hair condition. This is especially true of the platelet-rich fibrin treatments, as it may take 3 or 4 treatments for the fibrin to adhere to the scalp. Once your hair loss is under control, Dr. Tansavatdi may recommend maintenance injections every 3 to 6 months. PRP for hair loss is a process, not an instant fix.

How long do results last?

It’s important for those who are considering a PRP/PRF hair restoration treatment to understand that results from this procedure are not guaranteed to be permanent. This is because hair loss is caused by different factors, and the cause of your specific case may not respond permanently to the PRP or PRF procedure. If you have any questions about the permanency of PRP for hair loss, Dr. Tansavatdi will be happy to discuss them with you.

Who is a candidate for PRP for hair loss?

If you’re in the Westlake Village area and interested in PRP or PRF hair loss treatments, you may be an ideal candidate.

Good candidates are healthy men and women who are experiencing hair loss, and who understand that this treatment may not be permanent and that it is a gradual process.
