Benefits of ethnic rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty, or an ethnic nose job, refers to any rhinoplasty that is performed on non-Caucasian patients. When a surgeon performs ethnic rhinoplasty, they must take extra care and attention to detail to create a more aesthetic nose while retaining the patient’s cultural identity. Most patients want to maintain their ethnicity’s unique characteristics while improving their appearance. The benefits of ethnic rhinoplasty include:

  • Improved facial appearance
  • Improved facial symmetry and harmony
  • Correction of structural defects that cause breathing problems
  • Narrowing and refining the bridge of the nose
  • Raising the bridge of the nose
  • Narrowing the width of the nostrils

Why get ethnic rhinoplasty?

Dr. Tansavatdi will take into consideration the elements that will improve facial balance and allow the patient to have a new nose that will complementthe rest of their face: the eyes, chin, cheeks, and other facial features. In an ethnic rhinoplasty,  the dimensions of the nose may sometimes appear more harmonious without an overly refined and narrowed nose. The width of the nostrils, on the other hand, may require narrowing to bring overall balance to the nose. The thickness of the skin can be challenging in an ethnic rhinoplasty and manipulating the tip of the nose to get more refinement and definition requires advanced skill in creating a structural cartilage contour to define the nasal tip.

An ethnic rhinoplasty can improve and enhance your entire face, providing patients with more confidence and/or better breathing capabilities. As an expert of facial surgery, Dr. Tansavatdi takes the time to educate her patients about what to expect during the procedure and provides appropriate expectations to help them achieve the aesthetic results they want.

Am I a candidate?

If you’re considering ethnic rhinoplasty in the Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks area, you may be a perfect candidate. Good candidates are those who aren’t pleased with the appearance of their nose due to the size or width of the bridge, nostrils, or tip, and/or have an issue with asymmetry, a bump, hanging columella, or the way it may droop. If you schedule a consultation with Dr. Tansavatdi, she will discuss with you your specific nasal framework and how she can improve the underlying structure to deliver beautiful, natural looking results.

What Should I Expect From An Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Dr. Tansavatdi always considers her patients’ ethnic background prior to performing an ethnic rhinoplasty to customize the surgery to that patient’s distinct facial features. An ethnic rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia.

The duration of time and technique used will depend on the specific areas of concern that are being addressed, and Dr. Tansavatdi will be happy to discuss these with you during your consultation.

Downtime and recovery

As with any surgery, it’s important to be aware that there will be significant recovery time. Patients will need to plan for rest and recovery following an ethnic rhinoplasty. Your nose will be covered with tape and a splint, and you may experience pain, nausea, and nasal congestion. These are all normal feelings, and Dr. Tansavatdi will prescribe medication to help with any discomfort. She will also provide detailed at-home instructions to help with the recovery process. These are to be closely followed.  You will need to sleep with your head above your heart for two weeks following the procedure, and you may experience bruising and swelling for several weeks. You can most likely return to work with the help of makeup after two weeks. As your nose continues to heal, results may take up to 18 months for final results.
