Open Rhinoplasty

An open rhinoplasty technique allows precise manipulation of the cartilages of the nasal tip, but requires a tiny incision at the base of the nose that is usually quite imperceptible. The nasal tip cartilages are visible to your surgeon because the nasal skin is raised off the framework for proper manipulation. The bridge of the nose can also be exposed, lowered, and smoothed in an open rhinoplasty technique. At the same time, the nasal valves can be opened and functional concerns addressed at the same time.

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty technique is done through incisions inside the nose. This is a good approach for work on the nasal bridge with minimal or no work on the nasal tip. Most people can return to work in two weeks. Acquaintances will barely notice signs of surgery at two weeks, while close friends and family will notice changes. Mild swelling in the nose slowly decreases over several months. A note on swelling: Often, invariably, a patient will get distressed and concerned about the amount of distortion that appears from the swelling. The nose may look like a large ball without distinct structures for a few months, and the final results may not be reliable for up to one year.
