What is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau is a non-invasive injectable treatment designed to improve the look of moderate to severe lines on the face that come about by the movement of muscles in the face. Jeuveau is made of a neurotoxin, botulinum toxin type A. Botulinum toxin temporarily paralyzes wrinkle-causing facial muscles by preventing activating signals from being delivered between the nerve and the muscle. By temporarily paralyzing the muscles, the lines created by movement of muscles in the face are diminished or even eliminated, halting the aging process and diminishing existing telltale signs of aging.
Jeuveau recently received FDA approval in February 2019 for treatment of frown lines or “furrows” between the eyebrows. Jeuveau can also be used in other areas of the face to treat other unwanted lines. Jeuveau is an excellent treatment option for individuals who wish to reduce the appearance of horizontal lines across the forehead, lines around the eyes, also known as “crow’s feet” and unwanted neck bands.
Jeuveau is administered at Dr. Tansavatdi’s Westlake Village plastic surgery practice by Dr. Tansavatdi or one of our other injectors and requires only a 10 to 15-minute office visit. Patients are able to return to their usual activities right away. Subtle swelling at the injection sites is common and subsides quickly over 24 to 48 hours. Bruising is less common and can often be avoided by holding blood thinners or herbs and vitamins that have a tendency to increase the risk of bleeding or bruising. Jeuveau results are not immediate and will take two to seven days to take effect. Results vary and can last anywhere from three to six months.
Am I A Candidate For Jeuveau?
In order to determine each patient’s candidacy for Jeuveau, Dr. Tansavatdi and our injectors carefully examine the areas of concern and the patient’s medical history. The number of units and treatment areas are individualized to each patient taking into account the patient’s anatomy, brow position, facial tone at rest and strength of the individual muscles being treated.
An ideal candidate for Jeuveau is someone who is looking to reduce the presence of fine lines and wrinkles. Jeuveau is great for both men and women. Jeuveau delivers optimal wrinkle-diminishing results and is an excellent non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment option for men and women seeking subtle, yet effective anti-aging procedures.
As a facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Tansavatdi is highly educated in the anatomy of the face and neck and our injectors gain a good understanding of the anatomy by working with her. Dr. Tansavatdi and our injectors are skilled in administering facial injectables and have an excellent track record of patient safety and results. Why consider your Jeuveau injectable treatment with us?
Dr. Tansavatdi specializes in plastic surgery for the face and neck. Her surgical experience gives her an advantage over other injectors because of the level of in depth knowledge of the anatomy of the face. Dr. Tansavatdi and our injectors understand that each patient’s face is different. They will study each patient’s face closely to determine the ideal locations to inject. This means injections may differ between patients and there is no “general” location that Dr. Tansavatdi or her injectors will propose. Each injection is individualized to obtain the best outcome and facial harmony. Many patients have mentioned that Dr. Tansavatdi and our injectors inject “differently” than their previous injector. This is because our injections are performed more precisely to the muscles themselves which often leads to better results and requiring less units. We also deliver injections with comfort in mind, using the smallest needles available and cold compression for an extra level of comfort. O
ur injectors are very cautious on avoiding a “frozen” look. Our treatment philosophy is to obtain the most natural look without any visible sign of having had treatment. We strive to achieve a natural refreshed look, and your treatments with us should be your best kept secret.
What is the difference between Botox and Jeuveau?
There is very little difference between Botox and Jeuveau. Both Botox and Jeuveau are comprised of the same active neurotoxin, botulinum toxin Type A. There is a small difference in the purification process leading to slightly more pure neurotoxin in each vial of Jeuveau. Recent published studies showed that Jeuveau is equivalent to Botox in patient satisfaction and degree of improvement.
We like to emphasize that each individual is different and unique. Some patients may notice that Jeuveau lasts longer for them or that it is stronger while other patients notice no difference at all or even that Botox works better for them. The injection outcome for one person may not necessarily translate to the same outcome for someone else.
How is Jeuveau administered?
Jeuveau is administered in the same manner as Botox and Dysport. It is injected with a very small needle to the target muscle. Each area that will be injected is wiped with alcohol to make sure that the area is clean and sterile. Our injectors will then use cold compression to the skin before each injection so that any pain from the needle is minimized.
Is there any downtime?
There is almost no downtime for this treatment. Many of our patients return to work and daily activities immediately after their Jeuveau treatment. The treatment is barely noticeable that some people even come in during their lunch break to have it done!
Although there is limited downtime, you will need to plan your schedule around certain limitations as a result of the injection. These include refraining from exercising the first 24 hours after the injection and avoiding laying flat for at least 4 hours after the treatment. Most patients either exercise before they come in for their injection or skip exercise the day of their injection. Also, it is important to get your injection earlier in the day if you are an early sleeper.
Can Jeuveau be combined with filler and other treatments?
Yes! Many patients typically will have their Jeuveau treatment in conjunction with filler injections during their office visit. If you are doing treatments that require you to lay down such as microneedling, Hydrafacial, IPL, and/or Fractora, we will perform your Jeuveau treatment after your other treatment is over when we sit you up.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
Since Jeuveau is administered using a small needle, patients typically do not experience much bruising. If you are on blood thinners such as ibuprofen (Advil™) or aspirin, or vitamins and herbs such as fish oil, turmeric and Vitamin E, you may be at an increased chance of bruising, so we advise that these medications or vitamins be stopped around 7-10 days before your injection appointment.
You may also want to avoid drinking alcohol immediately before and after your injection to prevent bruising.
What areas can be treated with Jeuveau?
Jeuveau has been approved by the FDA for use in the frown lines. Jeuveau can also be used to treat areas such as the forehead, crows feet, temples and jawline for TMJ, neck bands and many more! Jeuveau is typically used on areas that form lines and can also be used to minimize the lines found “at rest”. When you come in for a consultation with us, our injectors will determine if Jeuveau will help address any lines or other signs of aging that concern you and may propose any other treatment if they feel it is necessary.
Why should I try Jeuveau if I already use Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin?
If you are noticing that Botox, Dysport or any other injectable on the market is not working for you or as effective as it used to be, Jeuveau may be a product that you should try. Each patient is different, and some may notice more or less benefits when using Jeuveau in comparison to other toxin treatments.
Where will my Jeuveau treatment be performed?
Your Jeuveau treatment will be performed in one of our treatment rooms at Tansavatdi Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery in Westlake Village, CA.
Are Jeuveau injections painful? Jeuveau is not considered a painful procedure. At our office, we use a cold compression device before injecting to numb the skin and minimize the feeling of the needle. We also use one of the smallest needles available. Most patients at our office tell us that they don’t even feel the needle!
How long will a Jeuveau procedure take to perform?
Your Jeuveau treatment will take between 5 to 10 minutes to perform. The exact time will depend on the number of treatment areas. Your appointment time will often be longer so that you have time to discuss with Dr. Tansavatdi or our injectors what areas you would like to address. If it is your first appointment with us, you may have a longer appointment time so that we can go over the treatment plan along with a consent form.
When can I expect to see results from my Jeuveau injections?
Typically, you will notice the results from Jeuveau start to kick in around two to three days after your Jeuveau treatment and sometimes it may take closer to 7 days. In two to three weeks, the full benefit of Jeuveau will be visible.
How much does Jeuveau cost?
At our office, we charge for Jeuveau by the number of units that are used so you will only pay for the units that you received at the time of your treatment. We emphasize that each patient is paying for the expertise and experience with our injectors at our office, and not the product.
How can I make an appointment to see if Jeuveau is for me?
