RHINOPLASTY IN AGOURA HILLS

Rhinoplasty is performed to improve the appearance and function of the nose. During surgery, excess nasal cartilage and bone can be removed to help minimize a prominent dorsal hump. Conversely, tissue grafting can be performed to add structure to a nose that is too flat. The nasal tip and nostrils can also be refined to create a more balanced and proportionate facial aesthetic.

Rhinoplasty can both enhance your self-confidence and improve your breathing. When performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Tansavatdi, your results will appear natural, nuanced and elegant, customized to your unique wishes for improvement.

What is rhinoplasty?

For some people, feeling self-conscious about the appearance of their nose significantly impairs their enjoyment of life. They may suffer socially and professionally because of low self-esteem. On top of this, the poor aesthetics of their nose may be accompanied by compromised breathing, which only adds to their distress. Luckily, there is a safe, effective surgical procedure known as rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, that can be performed to correct imperfections in the nasal bridge, tip and nostrils and restore a more balanced, attractive countenance.

What is the difference between closed and open rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can be performed either through closed surgery, during which the incisions are hidden within the nostrils, or it can be an open procedure where the surgeon creates a small incision at the base of the nostrils, providing unrestricted access to the inner structures of the nose.

In general, closed rhinoplasty is reserved for cases where the changes required are more minor. Dr. Tansavatdi will determine which approach is best for you during your private consultation in Agoura Hills.

Who makes a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Good candidates for rhinoplasty are unhappy with how their nose looks and they are looking for a permanent, long-lasting solution. They have thought about undergoing rhinoplasty for some time and have undergone a consultation with a reputable, board-certified plastic surgery to discuss their options and have formed realistic expectations for what can be achieved surgically in their unique case.

To be a good candidate for surgery, clients should be non-smokers who are mentally and physically healthy, with no significant medical issues. Surgery can be performed on teenagers as young as 15 or 16 with parental approval, provided the nose has completely finished maturing. Call Dr. Tansavatdi today to schedule a private consultation and find out if rhinoplasty is the best treatment for your goals.

What happens after my surgery?

Immediately after surgery you will need a friend or family member to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours of your recovery. You will experience symptoms such as swelling, headaches, bruising, and tenderness, but Dr. Tansavatdi will provide you with prescriptions for pain medications to improve your comfort. You will need to sleep with your head elevated at first to minimize your swelling. Try not to blow your nose, as this can compromise your results.

While your swelling will gradually lessen over the course of several weeks, it will still be there to some degree for around one year. For this reason, it is very important that you suspend judgment of your results, since your final outcome cannot be properly assessed until 12 months post-op.
